Liability and Accident

Personal Liability Insurance is to cover you against legal liability for accidental death, bodily injury, illness of another person, or for accidental loss or damage to property belonging to another person.

Personal Liability Insurance provides for the legal fees and damages claimed against you in your personal capacity because of something that happened on your private property.

The Personal Liability portion of your policy will also cover the cost of defending a lawsuit in the event of legal action being taken against you, as well as any judgments resulting from the lawsuit (up to your policy limits). Its main purpose is to protect your assets should an unexpected event for which you are considered liable occur.

Typical exclusions under a Personal Liability Policy relate to liability for motor vehicles that require registration and licensing to operate on roads. Therefore, cars require motor insurance cover and are not insured under home contents policies.
